Starting just before the intermission and for a while in the second
half, this movie offers sparkling entertainment. During this
time, the laughs flow in a steady stream with a series of
rapid-fire jokes from the dependable pen of 'Crazy' Mohan. But
to get to that, you have to endure a rather tedious first half
where the stage is set for the ensuing confusion.
K.R.Bharathy(Vijayakumar) and C.R.Kannan(Nasser), a music
director duo responsible for many a hit song in the past, are
now arch enemies. Krishna(Surya), Bharathy's son, and Janaki
(Jyothika), Kannan's daughter, fall in love. But though they know of
their fathers' enmity, they are both set on marrying only
with their consent. Deciding that the way to go about this is
to make their fathers-in-law like them, Krishna becomes the
driver for C.R.Kannan while Janaki poses as the nurse for
K.R.Bharathy's injured wife.
The movie starts off with one of the most feeble romances
this side of Kaadhalar Dhinam .
Character development is sacrificed in the director's hurry
to get to the meatier parts of the story and so the love that
the pair develops for each other seems abrupt and contrived.
One just has to look at Vaali
to see how a romance can still be picturised innovatively, and
thereby interestingly. Delhi Ganesh, as Nasser's assistant is
responsible for the few chuckles during this half.
The movie once agains slips into mediocrity towards the climax.
The characters have inexplicable changes of heart which indicates
that a lot of these parts might have been left in the editing
room.
The movie moves into top gear once Kannan and Janaki take their
places in each others' houses. 'Kovai' Sarala proves her mettle
once again after Viralukketha
Veekkam with a scene-stealing performance as an absent-minded doctor. A fairly long sequence with her encounters with
Kannan and Janaki in their various roles is the high-point of
the movie. 'Crazy' Mohan enjoys his latest foray into mistaken
identities and comes up with several funny one-liners.
Another saving grace of the movie is the music. After a couple of
misses, Yuvan Shankar Raja comes up with a soundtrack that will
make his father proud. Poova Poova..., CBI Enge...,
Chudidhaar Anindha... and Senorita Senorita...
all sound great. The last especially is unforgettable and a
definite contender for song of the year. The background score
is impressive too especially during the comical portions of the
movie.
Surya has shown improvement since his last release but still
has a long way to go. Jyothika looks cute but her dance
movements leave a lot to be desired. But admittedly, the
choreographer might be to blame here since none of the songs
have been picturised well and most of the dance movements look
awkward. Vijayakumar and Nasser are good as usual. Vadivelu has
been reigned in by the director which is definitely a good thing.
